Is there anything that must be guarded against with more diligence than becoming a middle-aged man with a young hairstyle? Your clothes may be stylish, your smile winning, but if you have an unseemly mop atop your head, you're just a clown. Even in Hollywood - a town that employs a small army of stylists and image consultants - comb-overs, pillow-tops, and unsuitable spikiness corrupt the heads of the vain and oblivious. We asked Martial Vivot, a New York City style guru, to evaluate the worst offenders. His answers may surprise you.

How can anyone think Rod Stewart is sexy with a cloud of highlighted cotton candy floating up from his 64-year-old head? The gravelly singer's hair may look ridiculous to many, but Vivot disagrees. "This guy is the shortest man you can imagine," he says. "He has to create some height. That's why you never see him with flat hair."
