THE RCCO is now well into its centennial year and enjoying some much appreciated support from organizations abroad, such as the Annual Festival of New Organ Music.

The Annual Festival of New Orga n Music (AFNOM) is holding a new music competition alongside its main exhibitions taking place in London, England, during the first weekend in August 2009. Composers of any age or nationality are invited to write a three-minute "Fanfare" (in celebration of the RCCO's centenary), which will open the festival-recital to be played in Westminster Abbey by Maxine Thévenot on Sunday, August 2. The winning work will be published and subsequently recorded. (The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2009; see AFNOM's Web site (www.afnom.org) for further details.

In Canada, the highlight of our centennial year will be the Toronto International Organ Festival, running from June 28 to July 2, 2009. Toronto is an ideal departure point from which to tour other parts of Canada, located in a province that possesses many important tourist landmarks. Convention headquarters is a historic landmark, the beautiful Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The Toronto Centre has featured prominently throughout the College's history, with many of our presidents chosen from among its members, so it seems fitting to celebrate the centenary in such a pivotal place. It is no coincidence that the convention dates encompass Canada Day on July 1 and, without wanting to give too much away, I can tell you that there will be fireworks!

Those wishing to make the most of their Toronto convention experience should consider acquiring Organs of Toronto by Alan Jackson and James Bailey, available from the RCCO National Office or the Organ Historical Society. …
