Thousands of San Franciscans Rally to End Israeli War on Gaza

AS THE ISRAELI military escalated its ground and air attacks on Gaza, and the Palestinian death toll passed 800, more than 7,000 human rights activists rallied in San Francisco's Civic Center Plaza on Jan. 10. International ANSWER, Muslim American Society Freedom, Free Palestine Alliance and other peace groups called for this National Day of Action, which also took place in cities across the nation and worldwide. Demanding an end to the U.S.-supported Israeli occupation of Gaza, and the unrelenting slaughter of civilians, many carried signs reading, "Stop the Genocide," "Stop Bombing Gaza," and "Free Palestine-Let Gaza Live."

The array of speakers included Abdul Basset of the Yemeni Writers Association, Dr. Hatem Bazian, Lubna Morrar and Cindy Sheehan, among a dozen others.

Free Gaza Movement co-founders Paul Larudee and Greta Berlin both addressed the crowd. Referring to the Israeli navy's ramming of one of the Free Gaza boats attempting to reach the Gaza port to deliver medical supplies, Larudee exclaimed, "Thank you, Israel, for attacking our boat. …
