Iowa Peace Activists Protest Gaza Genocide

DESPITE SUB-freezing temperatures and bitterly cold winds, 70 Iowa peace activists rallied at Nollen Plaza in downtown Des Moines on Jan. 16 to protest Israel's military assault on the defenseless captive civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

"I'm here because of the carnage in Palestine," explained Ismael Hossein-Zadeh of Clive, IA. "These defenseless people are being exterminated. They have nowhere to go. It's their homes, their land, and they need the support of everyone. This is the least we can do."

"We want a cease-fire so that Gaza can be opened to humanitarian aid," said Beth Sermet of Ames.

"It's U.S. dollars that are helping Israel to kill Palestinian children, and every year they receive billions of dollars without any sense of accountability. They've got a free hand. It's like the United States closes its eyes when Israel does anything,"said Mohammed Amjed of Clive.
