LeJeune has a distinctive walk along the keys, with a decidedly heavy footfall, at least the left limb. What it means, at least in this instance, is a less swinging approach. Lee Morgan's The Sidewinder has promise in boogie-woogie attire, but the style doesn't hang as loose as it ought have. Same can be said for all the boogie numbers on the CD. You're probably thinking that the genre has a right to run like a new engine. I'll grant you that mechanised music is only for musical mechanics. But the great players combine a solid time sense with an easy fluidity. This player cannot. That said, Earl Hines' Boogie Woogie on the Saint Louis Blues is enhanced by passages of varying rhythms. …
