Tubby Hayes is found here in a quartet setting at the famous Ronnie Scott's Club in London while still in good health and blowing well. It all adds up to one great compact disc. Now after all these years have gone by and we thought we had about all of the Tubby Hayes recordings there were around, we get one more plum. Readers may remember the remarkable disc of BBC transcriptions that appeared on the Art of Life label (Commonwealth Blues - see review in our May, 2006 issue). We thought then, that was it. One can only hope there's more.

The work on this present offering is quite out of the ordinary as we have this fine foursome having all the room, they need. Tubby is one of those musicians who just do not run out of ideas. As a result you have a well organized extended tune three times over. The first two tunes feature his tenor sax and on the third and last tune, he flaunts his flute. …
