In the words of language-mangier baseball manager Yogi Berra, this is "déjà vu all over again." Bob Wilbur came of age largely influenced by Sidney Bechet. In fact they recorded together way back in 1947. Here we come full circle. About two generations later, Wilbur became the mentor to another youngster, Nik Payton, from Chipping Campden, England. Meeting the 15-year old Nik, Bob took him under his wing, giving him lessons and many jazz CDs.

Now, some twenty years later, Bob is heard here paired up with Nik's London quartet at the time. …
