If one doesn't count the 13-year-old Laila Dalseth' winning a talent contest, her jazz career started with Metropol Jazz in 1963. And she's pretty much led her own group since 1974. She's recorded with bass aces Red Mitchell and Milt Hinton, tenorist s Al Cohn and Totti Bergh, and guitarist Philip Catherine.

It is readily apparent that this is not a new recording, for she's released numerous CDs since. But it's as fresh today as the time of the session. The reasons are several but one is that they are all well known and well loved tunes. Also the vocalist treats each one with respect but at the same time uses her jazz talents to enhance each one without getting gimmicky or sentimental. …
