LSPs 'Performing Patchily'

Local Strategic Partnerships are performing patchily across England, with some failing to achieve joined-up working or local influence, according to an Audit Commission report.

Working better together managing LSPs, published on April 21, found that 'performance management and influence has developed unevenly across LSP activities, weakening joint working and crowding out some objectives'.

The research comes out in the month that the commission launched its new inspection regime, Comprehensive Area Assessments. These focus on how well local service providers work together.

Most LSPs lack the mechanisms to allocate resources to joint working making it difficult to implement Local Area Agreements and sustainable community strategies - while few LSPs have carried out a cost-benefit analysis of joint working, the report said. …
