I'm convinced that Net Geners are changing the way we think about talent and work. Our research shows that companies that have selectively and effectively embraced Net Gen norms perform better than those that don't. Here are some guidelines for employers and organizations:

Rethink authority. Be a good leader (e.g., coach, mentor, facilitator, enabler), but understand that in some areas you will be the student and the Net Gen employee will be the teacher.

Rethink recruitment. Don't waste money on ads. Use social networks based on trust to influence young people about your company.

Rethink retention. Promote lasting relationships. Greate alumni nelworks.

Rethink training. Engage for lifelong learning. Rather than relying on traditional training programs that are separate from work, look to strengthen the learning component of all jobs. …
