"I have a terrible yearning," I said to the tall, smiling lady sitting across the table from me at one of New York City's little lunch spots. I leaned in and explained how this feeling seemed to drive me forward, pushing me to do more and more, but it didn't seem to provide me with much guidance on how to get to where the yearning was pointing.
