Every day is "take your baby to work day" at Zutano. The Cabot, VT-based kids' clothing company, known for creating colorful, cheery apparel for the o-to-4 set, saw a need seven years ago when its production manager had her first son. "It's a dilemma many working women have to face when they have children: Doyou take time off to launch this baby into the world?" says Zutano's president, Michael Belenky, who cofounded the company two decades ago with his wife, Uli. To make sure this valued employee returned, Zutano launched the Babies at Work program, which lets staffers whose job tasks are safe bring their babies to work up to age i. Employees who don't have private offices are provided one (with a small crib) to accommodate nursing and diaper changing. To date, nearly 20 babies have gone through the program. Production assistant Amber Finn brought her now 19-month-old son, Carson, to work. "I was still able to contribute to our family income while caring for my newborn," she says. …
