IAJRC Audio-Video Library What's New and Hot

Article excerpt

We have some delicious treats for you in this issue, a veritable jazz-lover's buffet, the next course will follow, in your next IAJRC Journal. Now to the first course.

Thanks to the efforts of Andy Smith, we have ten excellent videos of the Louisville 2008 Convention. They contain some very interesting and enlightening presentations by various members and guest speakers. Along with other features, one of the standouts, for me, is the Member Jam Session. Wait until you hear our very own Editor, on guitar. With his unbelievably steady beat, I have already dubbed him the 'Freddy Green' of the IAJRC.

But besides the infamous, you'll find the deservedly famous too. These VHS videotapes (NTSC system) document not just the IAJRC's own history but, of course, jazz history itself - top quality research as you would expect from the IAJRC.

In the next issue, we'll feature ten wonderful Big Band videos, thanks to the generosity of member Patrick Turner. Some twenty bands are included, with 1936-1965 performances. Not all are swing bands, but all are 'names' and every tape has something of interest for collectors.

Later in the year, I'll detail another remarkable gift, this one from member Tony Marquette. He has donated a collection of fifty (50 Count 'Em 50!) jazz videos, and a very nice rotating cabinet to store them in. In addition, for those of you who, as I, greatly enjoy the jazz productions of the BBC, member Tony Adkins has sent us a great number of recorded programs. Stay tuned !
