PIPE ORGANS OF CHICAGO, Vol. 2, Stephen J. Schnurr Jr. and Dennis E. North- way. Oak Park, 111.: Chauncey Park Press, 2009. xii, 290 pp., ill. ISBN 978-0-96678085-7. $65 (available from Dennis E. Northway, 2501 West Lunt Ave., Chicago, IL 60645; www.pipeorgansofchicago.com). The first volume of Pipe Organs of Chicago appeared in 2005 and was favorably reviewed in that year's November issue of TAO. If the first volume focused more on historic instruments, the second volume is able to feature a nice cross-section of the instruments to be found in and around Chicago. (As with the first volume, "Chicago" in the title includes the greater metropolitan area.) The authors organize their presentation topically with chapters titled "Built in Illinois" (organs by local builders, past and present, namely Hinners, Kimball, Berghaus, Bradford, and Buzard), "In the Old Style" (four instruments from 1892 to 1907), "The Grand Era" (organs from 1909 to 1941 by Möller, Austin, Kilgen, Casavant, Skinner, and Estey, among others), "The American Classic: Coming of Age and Beyond" (the longest chapter, with 27 instruments from 1950 to 1999), "The Tracker Revolution" (organs by Noack, Schlicker, Karl Wilhelm, Brombaugh, and Martin Pasi, among others, from 1966 to 2008), "Contributions from across the Atlantic Ocean" (instruments by European builders from 1 968 to 1997), "The Green Age: Recycling and Rebirth" (two transplanted organs by Hook & Hastings, one by Wurlitzer, and two by Casavant), "The Organ at Home" (old and new organs in five residences), and "The New Millennium" (instruments since 2000 by Visser & Associates, Casavant, Martin Ott, Halbert Gober, Taylor & Boody, Reuter, Goulding & Wood, and Létourneau). …
