The mantra above, repeated so often during May and June was getting louder and louder until all that could be heard was "five, four, three, two, ONE, and there she be!" A switch, back in the webmaster's office had, as agreed, been flicked and the top page of Mil, accompanied by bright colourful exploding fireworks and a heraldic fanfare, burst onto the wide screen. We had made it, we were on time, in spite of last minute glitches, doubts and re-edits! Amidst the rapturous applause I could hear the master of ceremonies loudly declare "ANOTHER FIRST for ATM!"

It was a policeman that broke my reverie. "It's all clear now - let's get moving!" I had been stranded for the best part of half an hour on the hard shoulder of the AIM, south of Stevenage. In spite of starting my journey early I was only minutes away from my rendezvous with my 'partners in crime' at the launch taking place at the MEI conference in the main auditorium of Hertfordshire University. Who was it that wrote 'tne best laid plans of mice and men ao astray'!

For the assembled throng, there had been fireworks and a very warm response to Douglas' invitation to join him as Mil 1 was successfully launched onto the worldwide web. Over lunch several ATM members were quick to congratulate the team as did many other delegates at the conference. They had genuinely been excited by what they had seen of the whistle stop tour given by Douglas. Congratulations were expressed all round.

It was at the TSM conference at Oundle later in the month that closer evaluations and observations were given. …
