Q: What are some things to keep in mind when choosing a cloud computing platform?

A: The most important thing to keep in mind when choosing a cloud computing platform is the willingness of your organization to handle risk. Security is a big issue in the cloud computing world right now - some providers make it a top priority, others don't. If your organization is comfortable with a little bit of risk, you can pretty much pick and choose what provider you want to use. If your organization is very riskaverse though, you will want to use a provider that can give you a solid guarantee and specific information about the kind of security it can provide for your data. Also important to keep in mind are the terms of service for the provider. Most places don't make any specific claim to your data, but it is important that you be sure of what claims they do make and how they handle the "who owns what" aspects of what you are putting out there in the cloud. …
