Some examples of ITC's technical cooperation activities by region during the period:

* Africa

Nigeria: In June ITC consultants carried out missions in trade information, export marketing, and import supply and management under two UNDP-financed programmes on women in development and agriculture and rural development. The workshops, which were organized in various regions of the country, were attended by representatives of trade promotion organizations, government offices and universities in Nigeria.

Sierra Leone: Under a UNDPfinanced project on export promotion, development and diversification, an ITC consultant undertook an assignment in June to instruct and supervise the construction of specialized ovens for smoking fish intended for export markets.

Togo: Within a UNDP-financed project, ITC organized a national symposium on trade promotion and export development in Lome in June to present an export promotion strategy and plan of action to government officials, the business community and donors. The strategy was formulated by a team of three ITC consultants.

Tunisia: An ITC officer, in conjunction with WTO and UNCTAD officials, recently undertook a programming and project formulation mission for a joint WTO/ITC/ UNCTAD project on follow-up to the Uruguay Round Agreements. The project began in June under financing from UNDP and the Government.

United Republic of Tanzania: ITC officers visited Dar-es-Salaam in mid-June to hold consultations with Government officials and representatives of the private sector to launch modules I and II of a technical cooperation programme of ITC and UNDP on the country's external trade, which is financed by the Government of the Netherlands.

COMESA: In early April ITC participated in the second summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government and addressed the third meeting of the Council of Ministers that preceded the summit. …
