Rob Thorsen is a gifted musician in the triple capacity of writer, arranger and bassist. He uses imagination, space and understatement to attain his objectives on this West Coast effort. Geoff Keeser should be well known to you but Josh Nelson? Well, he studied piano with reed-master Buddy Collette. Gilbert Castellanos went from Mexico to Southern California, with time between at the Berklee School in Boston and Cal Arts in Los Angeles, and his style lodges between Dizzy and Miles. Ben Wendel is out of Vancouver and received his education at Eastman School in Rochester, NY. He appears on four tracks with the tenor sax and the bassoon on one. …
