This is a fine modern, well integrated trio album by a group of veteran players, who cover the territory they occupy very nicely. The reference to the title tune is the fact that the last time Horler did a date of this nature was back in 1996 and then it was a quartet with guitar added. That disc was made for Spotlite Records, by the way.

John Horler has been recording since the mid 1970s and worked with most of the better players of the UK such as Tommy Whittle, Tony Coe, Peter King, Johnny Dankworth, Tony Crombie to drop a few names. Jeff Clyne has been around even longer, recording since the late 1950s, making much music with Tubby Hayes, Gordon Beck and so on. Trevor Tomkins started his recording career only a few years after Clyne and has worked and recorded with Don Rendell, Ian Carr to mention a couple. …
