A Software Review of The Greatest Paper Airplanes

Finally there is a software program that shows how to make paper airplanes that really fly! The Greatest Paper Airplanes software from Mindscape is a three-dimensional modeling adventure that can be adapted for all ages, kindergarten and up. The program has interactive sections on the history of flight from the first gliders to the high tech Stealth. By simply clicking on highlighted words, buttons, or arrows, the screen comes alive with animations that show everything from how an airplane works to safety when flying paper airplanes with sharp noses!

The program is set up with simple screens that work like a binder. There are three sections. The Flying section gives a brief history, airplane terms, and basic aerodynamic concepts and even allows for some virtual plane flying. A lot of a paper airplane's performance depends on how it's thrown. You'll learn how to control your paper airplane by simply adjusting the wings. You can do this section in a large group setting as an introduction, or students can, independently or in teams, work through the terms and interactive sections.

The Paper section presents the history of paper and animation showing how paper is made. Then it moves to some of the basic paper folds used in making paper airplanes and origami. …
