ELECTIONS

The elections are complete and Philip Lazarus from Florida and Ronald Benner from Connecticut will join the NASP Executive Council in July 2010 as president-elect and treasurer, respectively. NASP members voted at the highest levels in 6 years and elected these two officers in addition to 17 state delegates.

Phil Lazarus is an associate pro- fessor and director of the school psychology training program at Florida International University and has been involved intraininggraduate students and serving as an advocate for children and our profession for more than 30 years. Phil was a cofounder and past chairperson of the National Emergency Assistance Team and has provided on-site assistance in the aftermath of school shootings and natural disasters in the United States and many other countries. Hewas coeditor of Best Practices in School Crisis Prevention and Intervention and has written numerous other scholarly publications. He has presented workshops and speeches at conferences across the United States.

Ron Benner brings to his new position a40-year career in education, including 16 years as a special education teacher and 22 years as a school psychologist. He has been treasurer of the Connecticut Association of School Psychologists for the last 10 years and has held various leadership roles within NASP, including Connecticut delegate, coordinator of the special interest group CTASP, cochair of professional development, and Listservs moderator. Ron also started the NEA School Psychologists Caucus in the NEA-Representative Assembly so school psychologists would have an active voice reaching NEAleaders across the country. …
