The CMEA/Acme Performance Awards take place every two years. This year's award deadline was June 12th, 2009 and twenty-five applicants from across Canada submitted applications and CD's of their performing ensembles.

Performance Awards will be presented to recipients at the annual conference of their respective music educator organization.

Please look for the 2011 CMEA/Acme Performance Awards information which will be offered through this publication and through information sent to you through your provincial music education association. Application forms will be available in 2011.

The CMEA/Acme would like to thank the following adjudicators for sharing their expertise: Allan Anderson (BC), Sharon Fitzsimmins (ON), Mike Ferguson (ON), Jessica Kun (ON), Gilbert Bourgoin (Quebec), Peter Stigings (BC), and Mike Ferguson (ON).

The Christopher Gledhill Award - Orchestra

Arts York Strings, Unionville High School

Director: Larry Beckwith

The Arts York Strings is an ensemble made up of some of the finest young string players in York Region. In addition to regular school performances in the UHS Atrium and Markham Theatre, the ensemble is a perennial prize-winner at the Kiwanis and Music Alive Festivals. In recent years, they have been guests on programs by the Richmond Hill United Church Choir, Soundstreams Canada and the Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir.

Unionville High School Wind Ensemble

The UHS Wind Ensemble is comprised of 65 students from grades 9 though 12 representing both our intensive Arts York Music program and the school's thriving mainstream music program. Rehearsing once per week, the ensemble has prepared for performances throughout the year including appearances at the Ontario Band Association Concert Band Festival and the regional Music Alive, receiving both festivals' highest awards. …
