The humanities community has said good-bye to one of its best friends and champions, Bruce Fraser, who died in June after a battle with cancer. As the head of the Connecticut Humanities Council since 1982, Fraser made the council a financially sound and innovative organization. In the words of Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation Executive Director Helen Higgins, Fraser's legacy has been "to transform Connecticut's once sleepy heritage community into a vibrant industry."

Fraser received his PhD in American Social History from Columbia University in 1976, and turned his love of history into lasting programs for the state through museum and heritage projects, a permanent exhibition on the state's history at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, and the Encyclopedia of Connecticut History Online, which is scheduled to be finished in 2012. …
