"I would like to thank Mike Lahr for the big smile he gave me today at the pharmacy! I couldn't agree more with his article ["Our dysfunctional family," May 2010].

Actually, I, as the supervising pharmacist, finally got up enough courage to confront my staff. They are good people and employees, but their "personality traits" had become such a distraction in our little, closed-space pharmacy.

Since then, things have been much smoother, quieter, and more professional.

Keep 'em coming

I just want to let you know that I have enjoyed reading the financial articles in Drug Topics.

I am an in-patient pharmacist practicing in the Southern California area, and I think it is great that your magazine has a section that talks about the financial aspect of this profession.

As pharmacists, we are here to provide quality services to patients who need our help. At the same time, we need to educate ourselves on how to become financially successful in our chosen professional fields.

I was really happy when I noticed that Mr. Robert Gibson had written an article on finding a financial planner ["Simple finance for new graduates," April 2010], because it is something that I have needed to do, but I did not know how to look for one. Thank you for providing this section for us.

Can mail order sit up with a sick baby?

In the May 2010 issue of Drug Topics, a letter writer touts the "luxuries" of working in a mail-order environment.

I suppose this is true if you never want to talk to the patient face-to-face or help the patient in an after-hours emergency by opening a store in the middle of the night.

I would prefer helping my patients in any way possible, which isn't just an 8 -to- 5 job but rather a 24/7 commitment to our community. …
