Website of the Month: Financial Executives International

Article excerpt

Financial Executives International (FEl) is a professional organization of senior-level financial executives that has been in existence for almost 80 years. FEFs website, at www.financial executives.org, provides resources to its members as well as the general public. While nonmembers are restricted from - or must purchase access to - some materials, others are attainable by the general public and still others are available after free registration.

The home and main pages contain a main menu of resources: "membership," "events," "advocacy," "topic library," "career home," 'CPE," "research," and "chapters." The main pages also include navigational menus for that particular section. The home page promotes some of the features on the site, such as the most recent issue of Financial Executive magazine.

Articles, News, and Reports

The Financial Executive page can be accessed via a variety of hyperhnks. After a free registration, nonmembers can view both current and archived issues back to 2000. Articles are presented in HTML format with links to the main features of each issue on each page.

The "topic library" organizes connections to new and popular articles, news items, and press releases from around the FEL website. Some resources are members-only, but many are available to the public. One example includes a summary entitled 'TASB, IASB Modify Convergence Timetable in Response to Stakeholder Concern," with a link to the complete document from KPMG Defining Issues. Under "accounting," "Accounting Roundup 2009: Year in Review" is a 53-page discussion of issues such as fair value and impairment "Are U.S. Taxes Causing a Global Disadvantage?" from a recent issue of Financial Executive, can be found under "tax."

The "topic library" links to FEI' s excellent Financial Reporting blog. Recent posts include "Senate, House Conference Committee May Provide Sarbox Exemption for Small Companies" and "Private Company Financial Reporting: Time for a New Approach?'

The Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF) is an affiliate of FEI and publishes reports, studies, and survey results on a monthly basis. EERF documents must be ordered through the website, with access information sent by e-mail. Most of the publications are available for purchase by nonmembers, although some are free, such as the "CFO Quarterly Outlook Report"
