You walk into a room at a business social, don't know anyone, and your boss wants you to get new contacts; now what!? This session is great for everyone, whether you are just starting or need a refresher, to feel confident and re-energize the way you work a room! Learn how to work a room in both professional and social settings, plus techniques for introducing yourself, feeling confident even when you do not know anyone, setting goals to "cast your net" and more. You will leave this fun, energy filled session with a new excitement and confidence for networking and working a room!

Participants will...

1. List the techniques for working a room and following up with new contacts, as well as improving personal skills to positively represent you and your recreational agency.

2. Identify key strategies to network with ease and confidence in various business situations.

3. Identify ways to bolster your confidence and feel at ease as you enter a room and "cast your net".

302 - Do-Groove MN: A Statewide Health Initiative Collaboration

In 2008, the state of Minnesota Legislature passed landmark legislation to provide $4.7 million to put into action the Statewide Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) that works to reduce chronic disease in Minnesota. Learn how parks and recreational professionals have been upfront and central in the development of Minnesota's comprehensive, systematic, and coordinated approach to effecting positive healthy behavior changes throughout state. SHIP identifies interventions for increased physical activity within communities and provides financial support for improved infrastructure and promotion of parks and recreation programs and services. Learn how the Minnesota Park and Recreation Association - Step Up to Health initiative - partnered with the Minnesota Department of Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota to move the public health message from that of a public awareness campaign to a community mobilizing plan, with a consistent message, and carried throughout the state by its local and regional parks and recreation agencies.
