Investment Advisor's website (www. provides independent professionals with a wide range of information, tools, and other materials for investment advising and financial planning practices. Resources cover alternative investments, retirement planning, wealth management, technology, and even practice management issues. Most resources are available at no charge, although some require free registration.

The home and main pages utilize a banner header, containing the navigation menu, log-in links, and keyword search feature. The menu covers the website's main resources: home, magazine, news, channels, blogs, personalities, newsletters, directories, podcasts, events, CE center, and calendar. The homepage promotes materials from several of the site's features, including news, blogs, and several featured channels (22 in all). The webpages are fairly simple, uncluttered, and easy to use. Sponsored advertisements appear throughout the site.

News and Publications

The Investment Advisor website offers both magazine and daily news articles. Readers can enlarge the text of articles, print them out, and add comments. Articles include links to related stores and other articles by the same author. Pages throughout the website promote links to the most viewed articles, and some provide a "news flash" fisting of the past few days' articles.

Investment Advisor magazine is a free monthly publication, available upon subscription. Current and archived issues are on the website. Each issue includes a cover article and other articles grouped under "features," "beginnings," "conclusions," and "columns." In addition, "sidebar stories" from regular articles are accessible at the bottom of the monthly issue webpage.

Some highlights of recent articles available include the following. The cover article in the February 2010 issue, "Invest Globally, Advise Locally," encourages investment advisors to focus not only on emerging markets, but emerging investors as well. The article specifically addresses how to reach the Hispanic investors. The April 2010 cover story, "The Upside of Irrationality," addresses several factors that affect investors' decisions and risk tolerance, along with their trust in advisors.

The July 2010 features section contains several articles on succession planning for professional practices, such as "You've Got to Have a Han."
