Following Facebook

It seems everyone is on Facebook today. In fact, the Financial Times reported that the social networking site may be worth more than $33 billion. That's right. Billion with a "b." OK, other estimates of its value are somewhat lower, but the site is still growing . . . and fast.

With more than 500 million members, Facebook has become a big draw for advertisers who want to connect with the audience, which isn't always an easy feat since the audience is quite disjointed and members remain resistant to let the company access data about them to share with other advertisers and marketers.

Gotcha With That Tweet

Chad Ochocinco was fined $25,000 by the National Football League (NFL) for having an electronic device in his possession and posting messages on Twitter during the Cincinnati Bengals' preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles in August. The wide receiver's first tweet update was posted on his account just before kickoff. Then, he posted another update about 2 hours into the game. So that works out to $12,500 for each tweet. The NFL bans any use of social media on game days that extend from 90 minutes before kickoff until after postgame interviews.

World Summit Mobile Awards

The World Summit Awards (WSA) is a biannual competition that was launched in 2003 to select and promote the world's best econtent and most innovative digital content applications. The noncommercial awards program "implements the UN agenda for the development of the information society and supports specifically the UN Millennium Development Goals of ending poverty, hunger and disease, providing education for all, saving the environment and giving a fair share to women through the use of [digital content]."
