To ONLINE Readers:

With several examples, this issue of ONLINE should convince you that remote workstyles work. The personal experience of numerous authors verifies that technology plus motivated work teams can yield increased productivity, even when members are separated by large distances.

But all remote workers testify to the value of face-toface meetings. There is something about people coming together on an occasional basis that can spark ideas, clarify uncertainties, reassure where there may be misunderstanding, or fine tune a framework for agreement, consensus, and forward progress-whether these activities are on the formal agenda or not. Furthermore, faceto-face is a nice way to share the joy of achievement and to acknowledge and revel in the pleasures of mutual interests.

For almost twenty years, many ONLINE readers have come together face-to-face at the annual ONLINE WORLD fall conference. As I write this, just before this year's September conference and expo at the Washington Hilton & Towers, I am anticipating the stimulation, excitement, and comfort of seeing once again many friends and associates I have known during my years in the industry-and to discovering more. …
