Most UK Local Authorities Meet CRC Deadlines

All but 48 UK councils registered on time for the mandatory Carbon Reduction Commitment energy efficiency scheme - but officials in charge of the system have pledged a light- touch approach to those falling behind.

The deadline for signing up to the CRC was September 30. The scheme will cover many household names from die private sector alongside public bodies such as councils, Whitehall departments and NHS trusts.

The final list of registrants is expected to include around 3,000 organisations, but is yet to be released by the Environment Agency, which runs the scheme.

Although some public bodies will not have a large enough carbon 'footprint' to qualify, all will have been expected to submit data on their energy use by September 30.

The 48 local authorities diät did not register in time account for about 10% of councils.

Of those, at least two - Cheshire East, and Cheshire West & Chester - were exempt because they were too new. …
