The compact disc we have here is a fine one. Now, I'd best explain. You have here four men who have been on the New York scene for a long time and many times together especially the bass and drums. This gives a lot of cohesion to this session. Lalama and Hart are the featured solo instruments. With this type of rhythm section they have lots of options and use them fully. The dialogue between Ralph and John is a real highlight and then on top of that the support they contribute to each other while the other solos are also remarkable.

I find the selection of the tunes to be another highlight. The album begins with a tune written by Wayne Shorter followed by a Stevie Wonder opus which becomes a minor blues in the hands of these gentlemen. …
