Sony Join Sergi Vizcaino's Horror Scars

Sony will finance and co-produce alongside Spanish outfit Roday Y Rodar, which has revealed details of its new slate.

US studio Sony has joined Sergi Vizcaino's new horror project Scars alongside Spanish outfit Rodar Y Rodar, producers of The Orphanage.

Scars is based on a script by Daniel Padro and will tell the story of a group of university students who set up camp in an abandoned town to investigate possible paranormal activities.

"Shooting on the project will begin next March with exciting new Spanish talent taking the lead roles," Joaquin Padro, president of Rodar Y Rodar, told ScreenDaily.

Padro and Mar Targarona, director of Rodar Y Rodar, will be in charge of the production, while DeaPlaneta is handling international sales.Rodar Y Rodar also revealed a slate of new projects, including a romantic comedy project called Uno Equis Dios (1 X Dios), written and directed by Curro Velazquez (Brain Drain), which will have a top level international cast and will be about a group of priests who enter a European football tournament. It is being billed as a cross between Sister Act, Love Actually and Cinema Paradiso.

The company is also working on two projects directed by Targarona; Carmen Amaya, a biopic set in the 1940s about the life of the world renowned Flamenco dancer who fell in love with a young guitarist named Juan Antonio Aguero, which will shoot in February 2012 with a budget of $10m; and a $15m historical biopic adventure film Ali Bey, about 19th century Spanish explorer Domingo Badia who became a spy. …
