This would be the fifth recording this Central Pennsylvania sax player has recorded for Criss Cross. His last one was One for Shirley, reviewed in our December 2008 issue. Once again he works with the same trumpet player, organist and drummer. Warfield and Stafford have recorded together frequently on each other's dates as well as with one of their mentors, Shirley Scott. No need to go into detail about the abilities of these fine players.

The whole program here is a total of eight well known tunes. What is somewhat different is their approach to the tunes. Sentimental Journey and I'll be Seeing You start out on the first chorus as more or less straight ahead before they solo. Each of the three who solo here (sans the drummer) have their individual styles. Warfield works mostly with the chord changes while Stafford is much more melodic and Bianchi is some where in between. …
