Just when you thought the holiday festivities were drawing to a close, the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale arrives to help ring in the new year. The annual event, which is part of the National Western Stock Show, opens with a red-carpet reception on Wednesday, January 5, on the third floor of the National Western Expo Hall and is open to the public January 8-23. Proceeds benefit the National Western Scholarship Trust, whicb offers scholarships to students studying agribusiness, rural medicine, or large animal veterinary medicine.

The show features about 200 works by more than 50 artists, plus a wonderful and popular group of miniature pieces. Each year it offers an exciting mix of traditional and contemporary artworks, ranging in style from abstraction to realism. Stone sculptor Steve Kestrel [see page 52] is this year's featured artist, and one of his works will be purchased for the National Western's permanent collection. Thirteen artists are new to tbe show this year: Jeff Aeling, Tony Angeli, Josh Clare, Floyd DeWitt, Robert Lemler, Jerry Markham, KyIe Paliotto, Daniel W. Pinkham, Jo LeMay Rutledge, Lindsay Scott, Bart Walters, Laura Wilson, and Dinah Worman. Returning artists include Carolyn Anderson, Dean Mitchell, Jill Soukup, Dan Young, and Rod Zullo.

Carolyn Anderson is a returning show participant. She is a nationally recognized oil painter based in Montana. Anderson is a member of the Northwest Rendezvous group and is a Master Artist with the American Impressionist Society, where she won the Master Award of Excellence in 2010. …
