Catholic Colleges Unite to Support Elementary and Secondary Schools

The organization previouly known as the Assocaition of the catholic Leadership Programs (ACLP) has developed into Catholic Higher Education Supporting Catholic Schools (CHESCS, pronounced "chess") to promote better collaborative relationships among all levels of Catholic education.

Founded in 1983, ACLP was a consortium of Catholic colleges and universities that supported professional preparation of leaders for Catholic schools.

The new name reflects a desire for a broader focus- inclusive of all Catholic colleges and universities that support Catholic elementary and secondary schools through degree programs, certificate/licensure programs, seminars and professional development experiences for all those working in Catholic education ministries.

The new organization remains part of NCEA, through the Department of Chief Administrators of Catholic Education (CACE).

Following the initial meeting at the NCEA Convention in Minneapolis. CHESCS committees are identifying and soliciting potential members and drafting a vision statement for consideration. The group will meet twice a year, once in the fall during the annual CACE meeting and in the spring during the annual NCEA convention.

Among the group's initial projects is compiling a database and directory of colleges and universities that offer degree or certificate programs for Catholic school personnel. …
