COUNTING CONES INSCOTLAND

The Accounts Commission will revisit its work on road maintenance in Scotland. A follow-up report will evaluate the extent to which recommendations made in a 2004 report have been implemented, particularly whether the maintenance backlog has reduced and if value for money has been improved.

IS THE ATTRACTION MUTUAL?

Does handing over public sector assets to social enterprises and mutuals make sound financial sense? That is the question the National Audit Office will attempt to answer when it publishes the results of its work on devolving service provision. The study, due to be published in the spring, will assess whether public sector commissioners are getting value for money from divesting public service functions and assets. It will focus on the health, social care, leisure and cultural sectors.
