Dear Mr. President:

My name is Erica Marie Williams. I am 29-years old and have sickle cell anemia. I was born with this disease, and it affects my body and my life in the worst way. Some days my pain is so bad that I can't even get out of bed. I am forced to stay in bed all day, and my bed becomes a terrible prison for me. And since I was seven, I've had constant seizures and have suffered strokes.

Throughout my life, I have had to seek medical treatment constantly and make regular visits to the hospital. But at times, I get very frustrated by the medical service I get when I visit certain hospitals. Because I suffer seizures, I need emergency treatment when I arrive at the hospital. But a lot of times, the personnel at the hospital don't seem to know how to properly and promptly treat victims with my disease. And oftentimes when I am admitted to the hospital for emergency service, I have to wait longer than I should before a doctor or another medical person will see me. …
