Fox International's Rio Set to Rule the Roost This Weekend

Blue Sky Studios' family animation takes off in approximately 45 territories and should have little trouble soaring to the top of the charts in a number of territories.

Fox International has plotted a wide release one week ahead of the North American launch and significantly this includes a number of key piracy markets such as China, the UK, Russia and Spain.

Elsewhere Rio will touch down in Brazil - where the story takes place - as well as Australia, Germany, Mexico, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Switzerland, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa and Sweden.

Fox's other active exports, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Black Swan, stand at $38.7m and $186.1m, respectively.

Sucker Punch claimed Hollywood's international crown last weekend and has grossed $23.7m to date. The fantasy action opens through Warner Bros Pictures International in South Korea and Australia this weekend. New Line's supernatural thriller The Rite stands at $57m, Red Riding Hood $15.5m and Hall Pass $22m.

Sony Pictures Releasing International's Battle: LA had amassed $96.1m by the end of last weekend and will ease past $100m in the next few days, if it has not already done so.

Rom-com Just Go With It reached $76.3m by the start of the week and opens in eight territories including India, New Zealand and Belgium, while horror release The Roommate arrives in the UK and three other markets.

Paramount/PPI's animated hit Rango stands at $109.2m, while the Australian action smash Tomorrow When The War Began opens in the UK, Sweden and Denmark. …
