Thor Races to $23M Overseas as Weekend Beckons

Thor grossed $8m from its opening days in 25 markets through Paramount Pictures International for a $23m international running total including Australia and previews in the UK, Italy and elsewhere.

Among the highlights are $3.9m from two days in the UK including Monday previews; $1.55m in France on opening day and $2.9m from the first two days; $1.5m in Germany including Wednesday previews; and $1m from the opening day in Russia rising to $1.4m including previews.

Elsewhere the god of thunder amassed $725,000 from South Korea; $260,000 from Malaysia for Marvel Studios' biggest non-holiday opening day; $200,000 from opening day in Hong Kong; and $110,000 from its first day in Argentina. After one week in Australia the total box office exceeds $9.7m.

Thor opens in more than 20 markets today [29] and will be active in 56 markets this weekend heading into public holiday Monday in many markets.

Meanwhile Rio stood at an excellent $213.9m through Fox International by the end of Monday and could breeze past the $240m mark in the coming days.

Fox's period romance Water For Elephants stands at an early $2.9m and opens in around ten territories including Brazil, Germany and Mexico. …
