"Reform in Catholic School Board Governance: Msgr. Charles O'Neil D'Amour's Contribution to and Leadership in the Development of a Catholic School Board Governance Model," a new book by Gloria Ann Kalbfleisch, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

The model created by Msgr. D'Amour served as a prototype for the governance of Catholic schools and religious education programs. As a Catholic school administrator and advocate, Msgr. D'Amour focused on the need for inclusion of religious and laity in Catholic school boards at the diocesan and parish levels, the recasting of school board governance structures and the national implications of the new practices for Catholic school boards.

Each year the Department of Boards and Councils presents the O'Neil D'Amour award to recognize an individual's outstanding contribution of statewide, regional, national or international significance in establishing and supporting collaborative leadership through boards of Catholic education.

D'Amour was appointed the first associate secretary of NCEA's Department of Superintendents (now CAGE, the Department of Chief Administrators of Catholic Education) in 1957. …
