This CD is a reissue of The Brothers! (RCA Victor LPM-1162), with the addition of the last four titles listed above, which were unissued back in the day. It's something of a homage to the Woody Herman Orchestra's late 1940s sax section, famous for their disc of The Four Brothers, which then consisted of Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Herbie Steward and Serge Chaloff. Woody of course wanted to show them off. The charts here were done by Bob Brookmeyer, Nat Pierce, and Bill Perkins, and they're also exceptional, elevating this now 56-year-old album above being yet another "blowing date", into something altogether more interesting and artful. …
