AJTHOUGH THE AGO has made significant cuts to the operating budget, and budget managers are all keeping expenses down, our work is affected by a drop in contributions to the Annual Fund and the various Endowment Funds.

Nevertheless, in spice of the economy and even in some cases with cuts to their own income, our members and supporters continue to amaze with their generosity and loyal support of the AGO, so it can continue to provide its members with valuable services, many of which are listed on the opposite page. These are funded in partly our annual dues, which cover only 36.5% of the budget (half of which, in accord with the bylaws, is allocated to cover the cost of THE AMERICAN ORGANIST).

Many donors have stepped forward to cover the cost of prizes for competitions in performance, improvisation, and composition, Guild certification exams, the expenses of commissioned compositions, concerts at conventions, and Pipe Organ Encounters plus scholarships for young people to attend them. Other sources of income to the AGO include profits from conventions, advertising in THE AMERICAN ORGANISI' and on our Web site, sales of Guild educational resources, and bequests from the estates of deceased members. The remainder of the annual budget comes from contributions to the Annual Fund and earnings from the permanently restricted Endowment Fund. …
