Lionsgate Announces Dirty Dancing Reboot

The 1987 original that starred the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey is the latest fan favourite to get a Hollywood make-over.

The original film's choreographer Kenny Ortega will direct and is producing alongside Debra Martin Chase. Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote and served as co-producer on the original, is in talks to come aboard in a producorial role.

Lionsgate said the remake would incorporate classic songs from the 1960s, hits from the original Dirty Dancing and new music. Lionsgate's president of development and production Alli Shearmur is overseeing for the studio.

"Growing up in the 60's on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist," Ortega said in a statement. "I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring Dirty Dancing to the screen for a new generation. …
