The winner of the World Soundtrack Academy's World Soundtrack Awards will be announced at the climax of the Ghent International Film Festival on Oct 22, when disco legend Giorgio Moroder will collect a lifetime achievement award.

The film composer of the year nominees in the World Soundtrack Awards 2011 are: Alexandre Desplat for A Better Life, Tamara Drewe, The Burma Conspiracy, The King's Speech, The Tree Of Life, The Well Digger's Daughter, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2; Hans Zimmer for Inception, How Do You Know, Megamind, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Dilemma, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2; Clint Mansell for Black Swan, Faster and Last Night; John Powell for Mars Needs Moms, Rio and Kung Fu Panda 2; and Patrick Doyle for La Ligne Droite, Thor and Jig.

Best original film score of the year nominees are: Inception by Zimmer; The King's Speech by Desplat; The Social Network by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross; Black Swan by Mansell; and True Grit by Carter Burwell.

The nominees in the category of best original song written directly for a film are: We Belong Together from Toy Story 3, written and performed by Randy Newman; You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me from Burlesque, written by Diane Warren and performed by Cher; Coming Home from Country Strong, written by Bob DiPiero, Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey and Troy Verges and performed by Gwyneth Paltrow; I See The Light from Tangled, written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and performed by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi; and If I Rise from 127 Hours, written by AR Rahman, Dido Armstrong and Rollo Armstrong and performed by Dido and AR Rahman. …
