Northern Ireland's political leaders have lodged a final plea to UK ministers to lower the Corporation Tax threshold in the province.

The Treasury's consultation on rebalancing the Northern Irish economy closed on July 8. It proposed a series of measures to stimulate growth, the most significant of which is a reduction in Corporation Tax.

Before the consultation closed. Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness attended a discussion chaired by Exchequer Secretary David Gauke.

Following the meeting, Robinson said economic growth was the executive's primary focus and that every fiscal option needed to be examined.

'Having the ability to set our own Corporation Tax rates would provide us with new opportunities,' he said.
