Doha Unveils 14 Strong Arab Film Competition

Syrian director Mohammed Malas will head up the jury of the newly expanded Arab Film Competition, which runs during the Doha Tribeca Film Festival.

Seven narrative features and seven documentaries will compete in the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF)'s Arab Film Competition.

The competition has been split into two sections - narrative and documentary - for the first time this year, with awards on offer for Best Arab Narrative Feature/Director and Best Arab Documentary/Director.

There will also be two audience awards for best narrative feature and documentary with cash prizes of $100,000 each.

Syrian director Mohammed Malas, heading up the competition jury, said: "The Arab Film Competition is an important tool for supporting and promoting Arab films in this part of the world and providing an important recognition to emerging and established filmmakers. …
