YOU EARNED PLATINUM RECORDS AS THE LEAD SINGER OF TOOL. THEN YOU BAILED ON THE L.A. ROCK SCENE. WHY? I had a dream I was supposed to be in Arizona. A friend said he used to live in a small town I should check out - Jerome.

what's it like? The energy here is great. The people are bonkers. I fit right in.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PLANT WINE GRAPES INJEROME? I remembered my band tours in Europe, riding the bus through rural France and Spain, sitting up by the front window looking out at vineyards. And I looked at the terrain here, and I thought, I could do that.

WHAT DO YOU GROW? Mourvèdre, Malvasia Bianca, Malbec, Sangiovese. The Sangiovese is really kicking butt.

THIS MONTH IS THE CRUSH. CRAZY time? I'm in the cellar. Fresh grapes come in, you punch them down, press the skins. …
