There has been furious tournament activity around the world, while several of the elite were competing in the Sao Paolo/Bilbao grand slam. Matthew Sadler has returned to tournament chess with a bang; Kramnik has won a small but important tournament in Holland which should re-establish him at 2800 in the rating list; the unpredictable Morozevich has raced away with first prize in Saratov; and Karjakin and Bacrot have tied first in the Poikovsky event.
