Puss in Boots Repels Heist to Stay Top in US on $33M

An excellent hold for DreamWorks Animations' Shrek spin-off was enough to keep the Ben Stiller-Eddie Murphy comedy Tower Heist and the latest Harold & Kumar release at bay.

Puss In Boots has amassed $75.5m through Paramount and will have no trouble crossing $100m within the next week or so.

Tower Heist opened in second place lower than expected on $25.1m through Universal, while New Line's Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas arrived in third place courtest of Warner Bros on a lukewarm $13.1m.

Paranormal Activity 3 streaked into profit in its opening weekend and now Paramount and the producers can look forward to crossing $100m any day now. It ranks fourth on $95.3m after three weekends.

Next weekend's wide releases are Relativity Media's fantasy epic Immortals starring Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke; and Columbia's Adam Sandler comedy Jack And Jill. …
