Michel Hazanavicius earned best director in a one-two punch for the black-and-white silent film that confirms it as as heavyweight awards season player. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is shut out, even through the NYFCC delayed its vote by 24 hours to screen the thriller.

Brad Pitt was named best actor for Moneyball and The Tree Of Life while the group voted Meryl Streep as best actress for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Jessica Chastain's strong body of work in The Tree Of Life, The Help and Take Shelter earned her the best supporting actress prize while Albert Brooks was named best supporting actor for Drive. The Descendants and Martha Marcy May Marlene were also unrewarded by the group.

A Separation was voted best foreign language film, Cave Of Forgotten Dreams best nonfiction and Margin Call best first feature. …
